Why install a wood floor floating?
Floating installation of a parquet floor is ideal for a quick and inexpensive way to install your parquet floor. The floorboards are laid loose on the subfloor and no glue is involved. Perfect for any do-it-yourselfer. This ensures that the parquet can be laid quickly and can also be easily removed afterwards without any breaking. Replacing a plank is also very easy. Because the boards are loose, the wood floor is also likely to creak. For many people, this is seen as an advantage because a traditional wood floor is supposed to creak.
Benefits of floating wood floor installation:
- Ideal for any do-it-yourselfer
- Quick and easy installation
- The parquet can be easily broken out in the future
- Replacing a damaged board is fairly easy
- Creaks like a traditional oak parquet.
How should I install a floating wood floor?
Make sure the subfloor is stable, flat and dry. Vacuum the subfloor so that it is completely clean. Place the vapor barrier on the entire floor and allow it to rise slightly against the walls. Let the strips overlap slightly and tape them off with tape. A vapor barrier is not necessary if there is no risk of rising damp, such as on a first floor. Then lay the alufoam underlay or sound-absorbing underlay. You choose sound-absorbing underlay if you want to reduce noise to the first floor. In all other cases, the alufoam subfloor is the best choice. Tape the seams between the strips of subfloor with alutape.
Then begin to install the wood floor. Keep 1.5 cm distance around the parquet so that there is enough room for the floor to expand if necessary. This is best done by placing spacer blocks. After the entire floor has been installed you can replace these blocks with parquet springs of the correct height. Place 1 spring every 50 cm along the length of the plank. At the ends of the plank floor, place 1 spring for every 2 planks. Ensure that each end of the parquet spring supports a plank so that each plank is supported. The spacers may then be removed, the floor oiled or varnished if not already done. Finally, the skirting boards are placed.
