Treating wooden floors
Although an untreated oak plank is very beautiful, a parquet floor always needs treatment. Otherwise your oak floor will be full of stains in no time.
At Belat parquet we always work from an untreated floor, so that it can be finished according to the customer's wishes. In this way, you as a customer can choose to purchase only the treatment products and treat the floor yourself or you can choose to have the floor treated. Belat parquet has an oil street. With the oil street the oil is applied very evenly plank by plank, this gives a very even color.
There are several possibilities to treat a wooden floor: oil or also called hard wax oil, varnish or stain.
Hardwax oil on wooden floor
Hard wax oil is the most commonly chosen finishing method for wood floors. Hard wax an oil that penetrates into the upper millimeters of the wood and also a thin layer on top of the parquet floor. This has the advantage that it takes much longer for wear and tear to reach the wood itself. Provided proper maintenance, this layer will not even wear down to the wood. To obtain sufficient protection, a hard wax oil is always applied in 2 layers.
If a wooden floor is treated with hard wax oil, it is recommended to mop once a month with parquet soap. This way, your hardwax oil treated parquet floor will remain beautiful for a very long time. Besides the easy maintenance, the nice thing about a hard wax oil is that there are many colors available from a natural finish to whitewash, to different shades of gray and even black.
Varnish on wood floor
Varnish is a product that vomt a protective layer on the parquet floor. It is applied in 3 layers and ensures that the parquet offers greater protection against stains. This makes varnish a must if you want parquet in the bathroom or kitchen. Varnish is available in a shiny or matte look. In commercial areas, varnish is more often used because of its great durability and easy maintenance.
A varnish is currently less popular because it is more expensive than oil and the varnish itself is not available in different colors. For color, a stain should be applied, but then, of course, it becomes more expensive again.
Maintenance
Proper maintenance is one of the most important influences to keep a parquet floor beautiful for a long time. Regular vacuuming and weekly brushing with a soap specifically for oil or varnish will keep your parquet floor looking great for years.
