Can I install a wooden floor on underfloor heating?
It is certainly possible to install a parquet floor on underfloor heating. However, it is not recommended to install a solid parquet floor in this case. A composite parquet (or also called lamella parquet) is a better option. All the heat to heat the room has to go through the wood floor, this is why solid parquet floors will expand more than is good. A laminate parquet is not going to work as much and therefore can be placed on underfloor heating without any problems. In fact, the rise of underfloor heating is the reason why parquet has been developed. As you know, a wooden floor can be floating or glued. When installing a parquet floor on underfloor heating, it is advisable to glue the parquet to the substrate. This is because the glue will be able to hold the parquet floor in place better.
Installing a wooden floor on screed
A screed is also called a cement screed and is a commonly used subfloor for laying a wooden floor. However, the screed must meet a few conditions. First and foremost, the cement screed must be dry enough. The moisture content in the screed must not exceed 2% before a wood floor may be installed or carried inside to acclimate. In addition, the cement screed must not be too sandy when the parquet is glued to the cement screed. This is because otherwise the glue will pull the grains loose and as a result the parquet floor will be loose. This can be checked with a scratch test. In the case of a sandy or granular screed, a primer must first be applied before the wooden floor can be installed. For floating installation, there are no granularity requirements. In terms of flatness, a screed must meet the same requirements as any other subfloor.
Gluing a parquet floor onto tiles
If you want to glue a wooden floor to a tiled floor, it must always be degreased before gluing. Degreasing can be done with ammonia or cold soda. It is also necessary to assess whether the tile floor is rough enough for the glue to adhere to. If the tile is too smooth, the adhesive will not be able to find sufficient adhesive strength on the tile. In these cases, it is recommended to roughen or sand the tile floor before degreasing and gluing.
Installing a parquet floor on an uneven surface
Any unevenness of the subfloor is going to remain visible in the parquet floor. If the subfloor kinks, slopes, undulates or whatever, this is also going to be visible in the parquet floor after installation. The subfloor should slope a maximum of 2 mm per meter. If a subfloor is too uneven, then it is advisable to level it. There are several solutions for this. A well-known solution is levelling compound. An experienced parquet installer can sometimes solve this by applying a thicker adhesive layer.
