Wood baseboards

The easiest way to finish a floor in a neat way is through baseboards. There are dozens of types and thousands of sizes. There are flat mouldings, block mouldings, MDF mouldings, thin mouldings, thick mouldings, very high mouldings, very low mouldings, ...

A wood floor needs space to expand. Therefore, at least 1.5 cm space must be provided all around so that the wood floor can expand if necessary. This space is neatly covered by the baseboards. A wood floor can also shrink and therefore it is advisable to choose skirting boards that are thicker than 1.5 cm.

For each type of wood there is a matching skirting board or white skirting board to match all types of wood. Also, all baseboards are available in different heights.

Mdf skirting boards

Mdf baseboards or also called white baseboards or painters baseboards are made of mdf wood. These skirting boards are primed giving them a white color. The white baseboards should be painted or varnished after installation, painting is done with a white color or the same color as the wall. The mdf baseboards can also be supplied painted. Here, for example, RAL9010 is a popular finish. 

Mdf baseboards fit very well with both a modern interior and a country interior. Whether the type of wood is oak, ash or pine, a white baseboard can always be chosen. The advantage of mdf baseboards is that they can also be placed on a tiled floor. You can then place the same baseboards throughout the house. Mdf skirting boards are available as very wide skirting boards or high skirting boards, up to 30 cm high.

Oak skirting boards

An oak skirting board is only placed on an oak floor. This can be either a panel parquet or a solid oak parquet. An oak skirting board gives a slightly more traditional look to your home. Oak skirting boards are also very popular in rural interiors. To make sure that the oak skirting boards look the same as your oak floor, you can only opt for solid oak skirting boards at Belat. The so-called oak veneer skirting board cannot be ordered from us. If you oil the solid oak skirting board just like the floor, it will fit seamlessly with your parquet floor.

Pine skirting boards 

Because pine is very cheap, pine skirting boards are also cheap. As little as € 2.50 you can have a pine skirting board. The pine skirting boards can be oiled along with your pine floor so that it has the same color as the pine floor. You can also paint this pine skirting board white or the same color as the wall. A pine baseboard is made of soft wood, though, so it is more susceptible to scratches and damage.

Gluing skirting boards with skirting board glue

When installing baseboards, it is usually opted to glue them to the wall. Other options for installing baseboards are screwing baseboards and working with clips. The skirting boards in the range are not suitable for mounting with clips. The advantage of gluing baseboards is that they are still slightly adjustable until the baseboard glue dries. The major disadvantage of screws is that this is not the case. It is also difficult to drill perfectly so that these baseboards fit perfectly. Also, the screw heads remain visible or have to be tucked up.

Lacquered skirting boards

All baseboards are uncoated by default. However, this does not mean that they cannot be ordered treated. The skirting boards can also be lacquered by Belat parquet before delivery. White lacquered skirting boards are very popular at the moment. This is because these, unlike the primed mdf skirting boards, do not need to be treated after installation.
