Daily maintenance
Keep in mind that abrasive materials such as sand, dust and mud are harmful to your oil-treated parquet floor. Sand and mud get under shoe soles and rugs, causing rapid wear of the finish. The best protection against this is a large foot mat and to vacuum your parkt floor daily or every other day. The vacuum cleaner should have a parquet brush and rubber wheels to prevent streaks or scratches on the parquet floor. If you use a broom to clean the parquet floor, make sure that it too is equipped with a soft brush. If you are going to mop the parquet floor do so with a slightly damp, lint-free cloth! The swiffer is a very effective tool.
Cleaning of stains
The general rule for spills of small amounts of liquid or food is to remove with a slightly damp cloth/mop, then dry with a dry cloth/mop. For larger amounts of locally spilled liquid or dirt, it is best to remove it with a damp cloth/mop coated with a small amount of parquet soap. Clean the area, wipe with a dry cloth. Never clean the entire parquet floor in this way. This creates an unwanted film layer on the parquet floor, which causes a dull appearance. In most cases, a stain will still be visible immediately after cleaning. Do nothing more. It will disappear after a few days or weeks. Never scrub or rub it. Scrubbing or rubbing will damage the protective layer and the stain will not disappear.
Wax & Clean - For periodic cleaning (weekly, bi-weekly, monthly)
This method is used when you want to refresh the parquet floor in places that are walked on. For this refreshment you use the concentrated cleaner Wax & Clean.
Add 200 - 300 ml of Wax & Clean to 10 liters of water. Read the entire instruction on the package before use.
Instruction method 1:
Fill the mixture, Wax & Clean and water, into a spray bottle. Take a dust mop (e.g. Swiffer) fitted with a lint-free cloth. Spray the lint-free cloth until it feels slightly damp. Also spray a piece of parquet floor with the prepared mixture. Be careful not to over apply! Mop the parquet floor evenly and avoid puddles. If it does occur, remove it immediately with the mop. Repeat this process until the entire parquet floor is cleaned. Be sure to keep working with a clean mop.
Instruction method 2:
Use a mop mop and slightly moisten it with the mixture. Mop the parquet floor evenly a prevent puddles from forming on the parquet floor. Should this occur, remove excess moisture immediately. Let the parquet floor dry for at least 20 minutes.
Maintenance oil
For periodic maintenance of the top layer (quarterly, six-monthly)
Depending on the use of your parquet floor, we recommend coating your parquet floor with Maintenance Oil 2 to 4 times a year. This nourishes the parquet floor and preserves the protective layer. Make sure to clean the parquet floor with the Intensive Cleaner before applying the Maintenance Oil. Read the instructions on the label before using Intensive Cleaner and Maintenance Oil!
While cleaning your parquet floor, superficial and deep scratches will become visible. Some stubborn stains are best removed with a slightly damp cloth coated with Intensive Cleaner. Be careful not to apply too much force when brushing away, a chafe will result. Use Maintenance Oil to touch up the chapped area if necessary. Rough spots on the parquet floor are best touched up immediately with Maintenance Oil. Apply with a lint-free cloth and leave to dry for at least 6 hours.
Superficial scratches can be touched up by lightly polishing the scratch with a Scotch-Brite cleaning cloth and then applying Maintenance Oil. If it still looks skimpy after the first coat of Maintenance Oil, apply another coat of Maintenance Oil. It is important to clean the scratch area with Intensive Cleaner before polishing! For further advice you can always contact Belat.
Contact Belat what to do in case of deep scratches. Touching up these scratches requires the knowledge of the specialist because these scratches have gone through the top coat and any color coating.
Intensive Cleaner
For intensive cleaning (use before putting the parquet floor in Maintenance Oil) add half a cup (75 cc) of Intensive Cleaner to about 10 liters of lukewarm water. For heavy soiling, use a little more. Clean the parquet floor with a well-wrung mop. Be sure to rinse regularly. Do not use in combination with other cleaners! Afterwards, mop the parquet floor thoroughly with clean water.
Preventive measures for preserving your parquet floor
Always protect the underside of sliding objects that are in direct contact with your parquet floor, such as table legs, chair legs, sofas, etc. Fit them with special felt glides. Also clean the felt glides on a regular basis to prevent dirt from being trapped under them, which can damage your parquet floor in the long run. Doormats are recommended at all entrances. This will prevent as much as possible the ingress of sand, dirt, etc. It is best to avoid high heels. The point pressure of such a heel is more than 100 kg per cm² and will cause a hole in your parquet floor with every step.
What NOT to do
- Never use chemical cleaners such as ammonia, vinegar, turpentine, etc.
- Never use maintenance products intended solely for a paint finish, e.g. Polish.
- Never use maintenance products intended for a wax finish. These agents build up and this results in a smooth, scratchy parquet floor.
- Never drag heavy furniture or objects. This can cause deep scratches in your finish.
- Never use a hard brush to sweep your parquet floor.
